Elements and Principles of Art

The Reflection
Line: I drew a picture connecting many different lines to create an archer which is my sign's symbol (Sagittarius). This was a good representation of a line because a few lines turned into more lines which made a bigger picture. And I also visually looked at a picture and achieved this drawing.
Value: In this painting the value is shown prominently. Behind all of the dark figures we see a bright light which can be described as blinding if you actually were to be in the background painting. Then towards the front of the painting (the foreground) we see darkness and dark figures.
Shapes: I used my calendar for the shapes element because all of the lines on it make up the boxes "squares" where you would write the date in it.
Forms: I viewed this work in the art gallery and this is a perfect representation of forms. This piece is a three dimensional spherical figure and it looks like it's popping out.
Space: This is something that I colored to emphasize negative space. The contrast in the picture helps the viewer see distinct shapes and objects. I felt like this was a great way to display the element of space in art.
Color: I decided to use a painting my little sister made for me. Her color choices really made the dinosaur (what she called it) in the center pop due to her making the background blue and the dinosaur red with some blotches of green in the center with sprinkled polka dots.
Texture: This was my dissection of sheep's heart, before I even cut into it with my lab partner we had to record the texture. This is a perfect picture to show texture because there are two visible textures. Slightly ridgy and for the most part smooth all around.
Balance: In this picture I decided to create something like a mandala which is symmetrical. I started working from the center and I worked my way out creating my desired look. I think this represents balance well. What's on one side is also on the other.
Contrast: The idea of light vs dark is seen in my dessert. I think this is a great depiction of contrast. The brownie is very rich and dark and complimenting it is the vanilla ice cream which is light.
Movement: Using the flow of water for this principle was quite smart. Viewing the waterfall was quite intriguing and getting a photo shot was even more satisfying as the water rushed down. We look at the picture and automatically know which way the water is moving-- rapidly too.
Emphasis: This artwork shows a large hand reaching for a small angel. Instantly my eyes went to the small angel trying to get to the light but then my eyes traveled away from the angel to see what exactly is it trying to get away from. We can't ignore the large hand but I feel like the small angel trying to get to the light was the main focal point of this piece.
Pattern: My pencil case has a snowflake sequence on it. Some small circles, some medium circles, small snowflakes, medium snowflakes, and a much larger snowflake. I found this to be a very nice pattern it shows different shapes and sizes coming together in a repeated sequence.
Proportion: Being inside of a plane can put things into perspective. When looking out the window the world we live in seems so miniature, but to us it is perfect while we are in it.
Unity: All of my pictures of myself, my mom, and my siblings are put together to make one big heart. I think this is unity because I had to cut and position the pictures a specific way to achieve this "whole" look.

I really like the pictures you chose for this project. I really like the picture you used for line.
ReplyDeleteI love that your pictures are so unique and introspective. Each picture stands out on its own, especially the chocolate cake :)
ReplyDeleteYou chose really great pictures to represent the elements and principles of art, and they were interesting to look at. My favorite picture you chose was the one of your dessert, not only because it looks delicious, but because I think it represents contrast well.
ReplyDeleteGreat job on this project. You really explained each principle and element and gave a clear reasoning as to why you chose each picture. You can tell a ton of thought was put into this project and each detail was acknowledged.
