Entry #13: Art Curation Journal Reflection

Methods + Reflection
I didn't know how I would pull this off but I did and I hope it was great on my part. Starting out I have to be honest I did not know what an art curator was and how could I, someone with no experience, turn into one for this project. After watching the videos it put my mind at ease and it didn't seem hard at all. The challenge was finding a theme and sticking to that theme and not deviate from that theme. I found it easier to stick with one artist because that kept the theme consistent. I took a liking to the Lowbrow art after looking at the video. I found it very appealing and intriguing. While in google search for "Lowbrow art" some art by Stephen Gibb caught my eye and I knew this would be my artist. Putting together the art was quite easy and fun. Some artworks were missing years so I had to do a bit digging to find them all to correspond to the artworks chosen. Most artworks had the size, however, not all so some were not included. Analyzing the paintings was the most exciting part because I got to visually unpack what was going on piece by piece in the most objective way as possible. Analyzing was also kind of time-consuming because there was a lot going on in each of the 13 paintings I chose to unpack. Everything that I said, someone else can also see it by looking at the paintings so I did my job in taking my opinions and all subjectivity out of my analyses. This project was very time consuming but also fun and interesting.
