Entry #8: Exploring Line
1. What was it like using your hand as subject matter for a drawing?
It was interesting. I had to hold my hand still while drawing it which was cool. It took control because you have to remember that if you move you can potentially mess up the form of your drawing. This was challenging because your hand isn't a still object, it gets tired and you may want to rest it or put it down.
2. What media did you select - pencil or charcoal? Why?
I chose to use a pencil simply because it has an eraser and it is all I had at the moment.
3. How did it feel to create a drawing with your non-dominant hand?
I felt like a child trying to draw, it was terrible. I found myself dropping the pencil and picking it up with my dominant hand then smacking myself for doing it. I went back to drawing with my left hand (non-dominant hand) and I feel like I did bad.
4. Compare and contrast your final drawings. Do you think they are successful studies?
My dominant hand drawing I chose to open up my left hand and draw it because I was confident that I could draw it properly. My non-dominant hand drawing I chose to do something with my right hand so it would be quicker and easier to draw because I knew I couldn't do good drawing with my left hand.
5. Would you consider using your non-dominant hand to create artwork in the future?
